Banff & Jasper

Finally hit the slopes and had two pretty sweet days, one at Sunshine and one at Lake Louise. These mountains are massive with gondolas and padded seats on the chair lifts. Riding midweek meant there were no lines either. Stayed at the Banff YWCA for a spell where the central heating was so hot that we'd have the windows wide open (-20 out) and hung round in shorts and singlets.

Hired a rental car, worked out the crazy 4-way stop traffic rules and headed north through the Ice Fields Parkway.

Stopped at Lake Louise lake on the way and I managed to fall through the ice. Frozen feet for a bit.

The road through the Ice Fields was snowy and icy with massive glaciers. Saw some cool ice walls which are waterfalls in the summer.

Got into Jasper about 5pm and the snow started falling. Stayed at a sweet as hostel with an open fire and heaps on NZ tunes. Headed to the Marmot Basin next morning for a day of the fluffy white stuff.
